Artist Bio

Before March 2020, I would have described myself as a training drama therapist, educator and practitioner, working and living in Kingston, Jamaica. The pandemic has revolutionized how I see myself as all three of those things. I have now worked in spaces that I previously would have had to travel long distances to do so; at the same time, I have felt more limited than I ever have before. This contrast has manifested in tangible ways in my body (daily struggles between tension and release), my artistic expression (there is no training for a theatre/film turned Zoom actor) and my facilitation/teaching style (speaking into the void now has a truer meaning to me than ever). It has also allowed me space to explore my gender identity in ways that had more purchase. I could show up in these virtual spaces in the fullness of my being. I also could play with the veil, choosing how much of myself to reveal or remain shielded from the people with which I shared space. I continue to explore, through praxis, the ways in which the virtual space allows us to more deeper explore ourselves and simultaneously shield ourselves.
