Artist Bio

"Action, Reasoning and Time: That's what ART means to me." Yanque Yip is a muralist and fine artist. Yanque Yip developed his visual arts skills academically at Knox College High where he participated and won poster competitions, did his first murals including a mural to celebrate the founders of the school, one for peace day and one that was unveiled for his high school graduation.

He started “YanqueYipART”, his visual arts business fresh out of high school to make a living. Despite not furthering his studies in visual arts formally, he was able to collaborate with other artists to stage exhibitions, carry out commercial art projects and work on Jamaica’s largest mural in 2021. He developed skills as a speed painter and performed live speed painting at major events for a brief period (2018 -2020). Yanque focused more on murals since April 2021 after he was selected to be a member of a team of 5 artists to carry out the then biggest mural project in Jamaica to celebrate the cricket legends of Jamaica. He designed and painted 4 of the 21 murals.

After successfully completing the murals at Sabina Park, he was handpicked by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports as one of three Jamaican muralists to paint the Carib Cement Jamaica 60 Legacy project mural, the largest mural to date in Jamaica that was spearheaded by international muralist, Irving Cano (over 12000 square feet). He then went on to create over 13 solo murals throughout 2021/2022, including murals to celebrate Jamaican icons, culture, history and murals for commercial entities. He also led the design and execution of the St. James, Jamaica 60 mural. To date, he has worked on 30 murals with 21 being solo murals ranging up to 1200 square feet in dimensions.

In addition to designing and creating large murals, Yanque enjoys creating canvas paintings that are mostly surrealistic and expressive of the “higher self”. The subject of these canvas paintings usually stems on the human experience and his/her connection to the macrocosm and the principles of life from a scientific and philosophical perspective. This has a lot to do with his philosophy of "Your Infinite Progression", an abbreviation of his brand "YIP"
