Artist Bio

23 years old, T’afari/ MetallicWords is a spoken-word artist and author of the poetry series ‘HER-
ricane’. I employ language, voice and literature to explore the contours of womanhood, Caribbean
identity, history & its future, with the aim to educate and to inspire. Rastafari culture has inspired an
early appreciation of Afro-Caribbean identity which is a primary influence in my work. In 2020 I
released the HER-ricane Landscape which comprises a spoken-word album and three-book poetry
series catered towards different age groups. This project explores the lives of Caribbean women
throughout history such as Anacaona, Nanny Grigg, Dame Nita Barrow and more, in efforts to re-tell
the history of the Caribbean through the female gaze. I am a multi-Nifca awardee, international
performer and graduate of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus with 1st class honours
in Literatures in English. I am currently completing my masters in Creative Arts at the University of the
West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
