Artist Bio

They call her “Extra”. Samantha Wright is a 23-year-old Designer, born and raised in St. Andrew Jamaica where she still resides. Her design journey began in her formative years, influenced by her Grand Aunt and Father. She formally chose an artist career path at The Wolmers Trust High School for Girls. Subsequently, she pursued Fashion Design at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing
Arts for a Bachelor of Fine Art. Samantha desired an inclusive college experience therefore, she participated in extracurricular activities. These included décor setup, The Circle K club, mural projects and she was also a member of The Student Council Board. Samantha’s primary medium is fabric and she explores this with clothing as well as mixed media paintings. Her work is influenced by her fascination with
deconstructing and reconstructing materials. Through this fascination she intertwines her love for conservation, a love nurtured by limitation. Through limited resources she was forced to ‘tun har hand mek fashion’ i.e. create and create quality designs regardless of such limitations. The fashion industry is ranked by some as the second most polluting industry and with this acknowledgement she tries to create products in the most sustainable way possible.
