I believe the current purpose of my practice is to find wit and fun within the alienating experiences I’ve lived myself as an outsider in both my home country (DR) and the U.S. I enjoy designing characters and worlds that project the strong feelings I’ve kept in the corners of my mind, not only for the sake of a comical relief but also because it allows me to further understand and acknowledge what I’m feeling and why. I usually do this by creating digital illustrations and animations in which crooked, imperfect-looking characters mirror the attitudes my younger self or other people I know from real life once adopted when facing the hardships of being an outsider or misunderstood individual. My goal is to create artwork in which other people, regardless of their national origin or ethnicity, can see themselves, thus creating conversation on topics similar to the Imposter Syndrome, which are not discussed enough within the international spectrum.
