As a wayward West Indian woman, I’ve been born and raised to a region where my identity is laced with
all sorts of oppressive and glorious implications. The intersectionality that encapsulates my experience
of social conditioning as a Kittitian, born in the late 80’s, while my country was on the brink of its socio-
political infancy, as a newly independent federation, is vibrant and much like a wild adventure. The
misadventures of my girlhood and later those of my premature woman-dom, have been principle in
shaping my outlook and approach to the world. I see us, and hear us, and I’m constantly reminded that
the twang of our native tongue, and the panache of our tropical style is distinct, not truly marginal.
