Artist Bio

Neala Bhagwansingh is a writer and copy editor from Trinidad and Tobago. Her poems, short stories and articles have appeared in The Caribbean Writer, Small Axe, Susumba’s Bookbag, Acalabash Poetry Portfolio and Maco People. She is currently working on her first collection of poetry and was shortlisted for the 2022 Bocas Emerging Writers Fellowship. Neala is an alumna of The Cropper Foundation Caribbean Writers’ Residency (Trinidad and Tobago, 2014), and The Drawing Room Project’s Writers’ Workshop (Jamaica, 2017).
Neala co-coordinated The 2019 Cropper Foundation Caribbean Writers’ Residency, and is the founder of Write Club, a peer-review writing group established in February 2014.

As a native English speaker from the Caribbean with eight years of experience editing novels, short stories, articles, newsletters and websites, I can confidently assess content to solve problems in writing, while maintaining the integrity of the author's voice. Copy Editing includes: A review of the overall structure of your manuscript or document for clarity and format, to make sure that it is professionally and logically presented, free of inconsistencies and redundancies; and can be read with ease. Proofreading includes: quality check for spelling, typographical and capitalization errors, incorrect use of regional English (UK or US), punctuation problems, hyphenation and awkward grammar.
Your document or manuscript is ready for Copy Editing when it has already been edited line-by-line for style, word-choice and clarity of meaning. Proofreading is usually the last step before publishing or submission and should happen once your document or manuscript has already been edited and is in its final layout or format.
What you can expect: Quick Turnaround - Delivery usually falls within five or ten business days; Transparency – I will provide a timeline that works best for both of us, and will communicate milestones as we work together so you are aware of the progress made; Sample Edit - I am happy to edit a sample for free, as an example of my work. Length of sample will be determined by overall wordcount of the proposed contract.
