Michaella Garrick was born in Mandeville, Manchester, Jamaica and currently resides in Kingston ,Jamaica. She recently completed her final year of studies at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts where she pursued the Bachelors of Fine Arts-Painting.
Michaella Garrick uses sugarcane and the painting and collaging techniques to recollect stories of the traumatic past of the black female through modernity. Understanding that unaddressed trauma is an often result of mental health outcomes in the black community is her aim to communicate through her work by bringing awareness to the black population.
Her final year exhibition was exhibited at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts ; Epilogue: fons et origo in June 2022. Her most recent exhibition was the Sighting Black Girlhood at NLS in October 2022 and (in)Dependence at the Olympia Gallery in December 2022.
