Joanne C. Hillhouse is an Antiguan and Barbudan author (eight books, various fictional genres at 2024) and features journalist (with bylines in regional and international magazines from Caribbean Beat to Essence). She freelances as a writer/content creator and copy-editor; and has written and edited on a wide variety of projects, audio visual to print to digital for clients of various sizes, individuals to multinationals, in fields as diverse as healthcare, sports, banking, the environment, and the area she is most passionate about, the creative arts. Joanne also offers courses and workshops in creative writing and written communication, on commission and independently under her Jhohadli Writing Project banner. Joanne has received awards for both her creative writing and journalism - e.g. she was the 2023 Anthony N. Sabga Awards - Caribbean Excellence arts and letters laureate, the 2024 Intersect inaugural artist-in-residence, was twice short listed for the Small Axe fiction prize, three times long listed for the Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival short story prize for writers in the Caribbean, and has won awards (OECS and Caribbean Broadcasting Union Caribbean Media Awards) for her independent CREATIVE SPACE Caribbean art and culture column. As a literary artist and arts advocate, the two-time Catapult Arts Grant recipient is co-founder of the non-profit Wadadli Pen to nurture and showcase the literary arts in Antigua and Barbuda.
