My name is Geraldine Rivera, I am a multimedia artist based in the Dominican Republic.
Coming from the Caribbean has shaped the way I communicate and navigate through life.
There’s a really special way people from the Dominican Republic communicate with each other.
Every subject seems to be tied up to a story or an anecdote. Whether it’s real or an
exaggerated version of reality, it doesn’t matter. The intention it’s to set the stage for others to
engage in the content of the message. There’s a yearning desire for connection through
storytelling. My work it’s about that, connections and stories. I am deeply interested in exploring
inner worlds, and different ways to convey those ideas. I think of myself and my body as
vessels for all the stimulus that surrounds me. Though I work in several mediums (video, writing,
performance art, illustration, fashion...) at the core of everything I do there is a need to tell a
story, to communicate and to find resonance. I long for connection, conversations, and
empathy.
