DERRON ELLIES: BIO & ARTIST STATEMENT

I began learning music at the Manzanilla Police Youth Club at the age of 10. Twenty-nine years of musical experience have seen me perform regionally and internationally for appreciative audiences, in places such as India, China, England and the Caribbean.

I have collaborated and performed with many local and international artists, including The Orange Sky, Los Tocadores, Blue Culture (Co-founder), zydeco legend Sunpie Barnes, Jus Now, Lord Nelson and David Rudder.

I was also featured in the opening montage of Nicki Minaj’s “Pound The Alarm” video, produced by veteran director Benny Boom; I accompanied various Calypso, Soca and Chutney artists on their competition appearances; and I’m currently a member of the National Steel Symphony Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago as of January 2nd, 2018.

I believe in Purpose. Mine is to encourage people to believe in themselves so that they can survive and achieve. By sharing my stories through my music, I aim to be relatable and honest to the grassroots and the well off. We face many similar battles under different circumstances daily; my songs reflect the way I deal with mine, and hope to give you the clarity and resolve to face yours.
