Artist Bio

Demi 'Demski' Walker (b.1995) is a Jamaican interdisciplinary visual artist whose work explores
notions of accessibility; sustainability; recoverability using culinary/organic emblems, ultimately
investigating intersections within human/plant/animal endemism. Walker earned a Bachelor of
Arts in Visual Arts (major) and Film Studies (minor) at the University of the West Indies, in
affiliation with the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (2017).
Walker's most recent body of work is freely viewable via an immersive 360° virtual reality (VR)
platform [the enDemic Virtual Exhibition and Open Studio].

ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork is deeply influenced by my fascination with nature/ecology. I see very sharp
connections between environmentalism, food security and the topic of sustainability. Oftentimes,
my art features bright, contrasting colours paired intentionally with distinct
blackness/shadowiness meant to speak of beauty whilst considering the precariousness of life --
within the contexts of our ongoing climate crisis and the various injustices effecting (or resulting
from) these anthropogenic forces. My work is not only an expression of my deep respect and
appreciation for our natural environment, but also aims to tease out if necessary the deeper
sensibilities of an audience in regards to awareness of these issues.
