Background: Introduced to music before he even understood how to love it. Melodyus was around
music from a very young age. He stated in a Cycle Studio interview, “Music was always a part of me
so it comes naturally.” Wanting to learn more and being around other musicians with the same love
for their craft keeps him motivated. He firmly believes that his music can contribute to world peace.
Melodyus got his name during a studio session with an artist named “Ace”. They were working on a
project together and they found that Curtis’ voice was a perfect fit to the production. Ace then
called Curtis, “Melodyus” because of Curtis’ melodious voice. Children around the community then
started calling Curtis, “Melodyus” and the name stuck ever since.
Melodyus’ late grandfather, Herman Scope was his main musical influence. Other influences include
Chronixx, Peter Tosh, Bob Marley and Kanye West. Nelson Mandela remains Melodyus’ role model.
The artist honours the former South African President in his song, “Dreamer”. Melodyus simply
loves making good music. Music occupies a special place in his heart along with the love for his two
children, C.J. and Alisha. The proud father always reiterates, “I live for my children and family.”
