From Guadeloupean origin, I was born in Bordeaux (France), where I lived for almost 20 years. After art studies, I started painting and exhibiting at the age of 17. My first works were deeproted in my traditional legacy and steeped into African culture. As a matter of a fact I devoted myself to deepicting african colours, african peoples, african masks in a "new personal" style.
The various shapes that can be found in nature are of paramount importance in my works. Throughout my paintings, plants are turned into animals and evolve in a universe with flowing borders.
living downtown, I was struck by the omnipresence of urban art. To me graffiti have always been a graphic activity which allows me to ehance and combine various shapes, letters, and colours.
In the same time I grow into the habbit of keeping myself and thinking over churches. I am taken back by the stained glass windows suffused of light, the icons, the bas-relief curving which leave impression on my mind. Consequently, it will remind me of the same feeling when I visited romanesque Spanish and Peruvian churches and when I was a guide for historical Middle Age monuments.Throughout my different travels I discover the Renaissance in Italy especially in Rome. In Barcelona I got to know painters as Picasso, Dali, Goya...
Natural sites have always attracted me, so after 3 years in the wonderful site of Cap de Creus near Cadaquès (Catalunya),in 2008 I decided to go back to Guadeloupe, in the natural site of Pointe des Châteaux ( Saint- François). This is were I decided, in 2015, to create in my grandmother's house, my artist studio LILI GALERIE. This is where I live, create and showing my works. I have organized differents events here for six years (exhibitions, shows, and little concerts).
My artistic vision is linked with 3 axes:
- tribal african inspiration mainly masks using wood, send and metallic road signs
- Engraving plaster, inlaid with shells
- Large oil and acrylic paintings on canvas, especially figurative , representing human nudes in natural landscapes
This axes allow me to experiment different technics and create a personal universe which that nowever interest and touch the audience through different manners and aspects
