Akimo Randy Isiah Sandy is a dynamic professional dance artist with a unique performing style that is rooted in the Caribbean and undeniably reflective of global dance excellence. He is the quintessential “Trinbagonian” having been nurtured by the strong values of Tobago where he spent his childhood years before moving to the sister-isle, Trinidad, to gain professional training and experience relative to his now promising dance career.
Akimo is best known for his extraordinary performing talents, skills, technique and versatility in dance having been trained in a myriad of dance styles including Caribbean Folk, Ballet, Modern/Contemporary and Indian Classical. He has served as cultural ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago on several regional and international tours and has performed as both principal and ensemble dancer for various projects and events including New York Fashion Week Gala, Antiguan Dance Festival, Jamaica Dance Umbrella, and the Caribbean’s premier arts and culture festival popularly known as Carifesta.
Akimo’s formal dance training and education includes certification from the Royal Academy of Dance for intermediate ballet, award of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Undergraduate degree in dance from The University of Trinidad and Tobago and more recently, successful completion of the Boris Eifman Dance Academy’s dance intensive programme in Russia. He has gained a wealth of professional dance experience over the course of his 11 + years in the industry and continues to build upon his skill, redefine himself and evolve as a multi-faceted creative artist as evidenced in his notable work and continued contributions in the areas of choreography, technical theatre, makeup artistry, fashion styling and visual/creative directing.
