My name is Akaila Simms, and I am an all rounded performer that enjoys expressing my art through either provocative or inspirational mediums for my audience to enjoy. I am firstly a professional actor, I went to the Edna Manley school of Visual and performing arts for it, and received an associate degree in theatre arts. I am also a dancer, a fashion designer, a storyteller, a poet and a writer. I’ve been practising my art for way more than three years, it’s always been my passion so I grew up expressing through these mediums. The household that I grew up in didn't approve of my art because they viewed it as ungodly, unchristian, and unladylike so it’s been a struggle getting the support I need and the funds I need to develop my art. Therefore art has been my responsibility for as long as I can remember. The opportunities from the catapult art grant is something I’m grateful for and would love to receive again. Other than the financial help, It helped develop my art and my willpower to get things done and that’s one of the most important life’s lesson I’m thankful for.
